If any thrill can compare to that of watching animals in national parks, it has to be watching them in unmanicured wildernesses. Sadly, both habitats have been shrinking alarmingly. But increased awareness — reflected in the tourist traffic to some of the sanctuaries in India — raises hopes that better stewardship will ensure that these beautiful beings are not relegated to the domain of pictures.
